One of the most common questions in the minds of people with moles is whether it is harmful to remove moles. Invalid information is circulating among the public that removing moles will cause cancer. However, removing moles does not cause cancer and eliminates the risk of possible cancer that may occur in the future. So what are the methods of mole removal techniques, let’s examine them together?

We can sort mole removal techniques as; surgery, cryotherapy, laser, electrocautery, plasma, and radiofrequency.

  • Surgery: The most outdated and scarring method is the surgical removal technique, among the mole treatments. The aim is to remove the mole from the skin by incision. Generally, the incision made causes a scar that is equal to or larger than the mole. For this reason, it is an unnecessary technique for a patient who wants to have moles removed with aesthetic concerns.
  • Cryotherapy: The purpose of cryotherapy is to practice very low temperatures to the moles and ensure that moles decay and fall off. It is an easier method than surgery, but it has disadvantages. The patient may have pain for up to 10 days. If more tissues are affected than desired, healthy tissues will be damaged.
  • Laser: There is no risk of scarring and pitting in moles that are removed with a laser device. It cannot be applied to every mole.
  • Electrocautery: The cautery device isn’t known as the laser device, but it is used as actively as the laser device. A cautery device is a device that works at high temperatures. Thanks to its high temperature, it is used in surgeries like a scalpel. It is one of the areas where cautery device is used in mole treatment. If the high temperature of the device affects deep, it may cause pitting. Due to the availability of alternative and risk-free methods, the practitioner of cautery technique has decreased.
  • Plasma: Plasma therapy is applied with the help of a device called Plexr. The aim is to lift the skin in thin layers. Removing it in thin layers minimizes the risk of scarring. Although it is a successful method, it can only be used on superficial moles. It is ineffective in moles fluffy from the skin.
  • Radiofrequency: It is the most successful technique developed for mole removal surgeries. Its logic is the same with cautery and plasma. The radiofrequency device converts the radio waves into high temperature. Thanks to its precise setting, it evaporates moles from the body in thin layers. In this way, there is no risk of scarring and dimpling. It can also be successfully applied to superficial and bulging moles. In this way, it can be applied safely on every skin.
